In the delirium caused by the birth of her first child, my mother named me Grace after one of her idols, Grace Kelly, in the hopes (I can only assume) that her daughter would become an Academy award winning princess of an exotic country. Instead, I ended up becoming a concert pianist, and my life entails everything from traveling and performing to teaching and humanitarian work. You can read more about my professional life on my official site, or on Wikipedia, if you’re into that kind of stuff. Or, you can read what others write about me in a whole bunch of different languages.
I am fortunate that my career takes me to many places throughout the world each year - from North America to Europe to Japan. I grew up in a suburb of Honolulu, Hawaii, a place where even after all of my traveling, I still find to be one of the most beautiful places in the world. I’ve lived in New York, Holland, and now in Spain, and find myself constantly surprised at the course of my life.
A major character in my life is my 11 year old dog, Angel, whom you will see referred to quite often on this site. I also had another wonderful dog, Millie, who passed away in 2006, but who is never far from my thoughts.Besides the piano and music, my interests include reading, writing, photography, education, design, technology, and anything to do with food or cooking. I was one of those annoying kids in school who was really good at writing essays, but absolutely horrendous at writing poetry. I love going out to eat with friends, or having them come over to my place for lunch or dinner (told you I loved food), and having very long, fulfilling conversations about everything from art and literature to the reasons why Doritos are so unbelievably addicting.
I also love children, strong coffee, witty sarcasm, people with gruff exteriors but tender hearts, hot soup on cold rainy days, red roses, fireplaces, and anything Mac-related. My current addictions include Lost, the music of Schubert, Scrabble, and Thomas Mann.
About This Site
I first started posting back in June of 2006 - in the past year and a half, I have posted a grand total of 18 times. Sporadic? Too kind. Pathetic? More like it. I have often been so caught up with work and the demands of my career, that I have not been able to post with any kind of consistency. I am also a perfectionist, and somehow that aspect of my character has had a difficult time coming to terms with the very nature of blogging. However, as part of my new year resolutions for 2008, I wanted to be a better participant in the blogging medium, and to have a place where I could not only share about my life as a musician and performer, but also where I could work out some of my ideas and thoughts. I would like to post with more frequency and consistency, and I hope that this blog will serve as a way for me to grow and challenge myself.I hope you’ll be a part of this writing space, but if you’d rather interact with me elsewhere, you can friend me on MySpace, post some of my music on your Facebook profile, follow my small tweets on Twitter, check out my photography on Flickr, or watch me in performance on YouTube.
You can read a little more about my life and about this site in the faq section.
